Sunshine Thrift Store "Black Friday"

I am not a huge crowd person. The idea of getting up at the crack of dawn (or earlier) and getting punched in the face over a video game (a friend of mine did) just does not sound very Christmasy to me. So I tend to stay home and watch movies and read on Black Friday. This year, on my way to work one day,  I saw the sign out in front of the Sunshine Thrift Store announcing their Black Friday 50% off sale.  I could not miss having the chance to go and wander the aisles on my day off!

So I set out that sun shiny Black Friday morning, at the respectable hour of 10 AM and headed over to the store. There was a pretty good crowd but nothing too out of hand.  Here is a look at just a few of the things I bought for $20!!
One Kathy Van Zeeland handbag in like new condition

One Pair of the most comfy brand new Mossimo Supply ballet flats ever!
One Sonoma hoodie sweater, one pair of Old Navy Sweetheart jeans

I also purchased a pair of  black flats, a pair of khakis, a heavy black cardigan sweater, cute short sleeved swing top, a plaid long sleeved shirt and finally a black shrug! If you are thinking that is a lot for $20 you are right!

The Sunshine Thrift Store is one of my FAVORITE THINGS.  This fashionista can not beat the prices they charge on a normal day! Let's face it, I do tend to get bored with my wardrobe after wearing certain things more than a couple of times I like to change things up and Sunshine let's me do this. Especially on their 50% off all clothing days!!

This Thursday at the South Tampa Location you too can get in on this action.

Half Price Sale: Thursday, December 8

Take 50% off all clothing items!
Tampa location only.

(This sale is for clothing items only. Shoes, handbags and accessories are not included)  Handbags found on the back wall are already a super low $2.95 and I have never paid more than $5 for a pair of shoes!

Here are a few tips from this veteran:
  1. Take your time and have some patience (the store can be crowded) but have fun. You never know what you are going to find and that is the best part.
  2. While it is always fun to find neat things, you might want to start a list of things you would like to try and find.
  3. Look over the garment for stains, tears, missing buttons or zippers. Know your limitations on correcting this situation. Can you sew or do you know someone who can? Sometimes I take a Tide pen with me to see if I can get out a stain or not. Can you refashion something ripped or stained? Tie dye it or maybe an iron on. Think about what you can do with the item if you love it and there is an issue. Sometimes, you do have to leave things behind.
  4. Know your measurements, since no two manufactures sizes are the same, you need to know what your traditional measurements are. Invest in a fabric measuring tape and take and write down your measurements. Take the tape with you and when in doubt, measure the garment!
  5. Get to know a tailor in your area and know how much they charge to take things in, fix zippers or sew buttons. I am a petite girly and buying trousers or jeans means a trip to the tailors. I found a dry cleaners who will hem pants for a reasonable price and quick turn around time. I also found a tailor to bring  garments to be taken in at the waist.  If I feel the need to instantly change up the look of an outfit, they will both sew on new buttons for me for a small fee!
My list consists of sweaters, jeans and flats.  You can never have enough of either during the winter months. I hope to see you there!  Till next time~!

Happy Thanksgiving 2011!!

The 85th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is but a memory. Watching it every year is one of my favorite things to do Thanksgiving AM. This year was pretty good and even had a couple of  surprises.  Cobra Starship was on the Hess Truck float and sang, there was also a  Hello Kitty balloon.

As I watch the parade I peruse the sale ads. They are not quite as exciting as they used to be for me,as a child, I was looking for myself to see what Santa would bring me. Then as a mother, I was looking to see what Santa would bring my son.  Sadly, my only child is now 16 years old and car shopping, so I don't have a lot of need for toys. Not in the market for a new tele or a computer so I am really just looking for kicks.

While I found all kinds of neat things, like a couple of handbags, boots and watches at Macy's I am not heading there at midnight to scoop them up. Nor will I be at Walmart tonight at 10 pm to scoop up sale watches, pjs, shirts or jackets. The need to leave my house tonight or even some ungodly hour to shop does not appeal to me, at all.  Most of the items said while supplies last so I have just as good of a chance of getting them at a more reasonable hour.

The Sunshine Thrift Store is having a 1/2 off sale on clothing tomorrow and I can not wait. I love the hunt for great stuff! I love going there and looking thru the racks of treasures. I am working on building up my wardrobe of classics pieces that can be tailored and retailored as I loose the weight. Sooo I have already made my plans to head over there to look for some amazing finds! Tune in tomorrow for a sneak peek at my incredible finds!

For now, I will sit and finish reading my book.. Mindy Kaling's "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?"  and reflect on the year that is quickly passing and begin planning the year ahead.

I hope you and yours had an amazing day full of memories you will cherish for a lifetime.

Top O the Morning to ya!  With all due respect to the Irish folks of the world, the Italians are out to steal your thunder. I think this day of wearing green and drinking is safe for the time being.

Powdered Mini Donuts Calling My Name

My best biffle BJ, brought me a bag full of the Devil this AM, Hostess Powdered Mini Donuts.

They were a Saturday and Sunday morning favorite of my son and I.   Aaron, who is currently touring Rome with 10 of his Latin Class friends, now lives with his father in Texas. Everyday I am reminded of a ritual or two I miss sharing with him. I understand that at 16 years old, he is probably over eating donuts and watching cartoons with me, it's sad to me how time moves on.   I am left with a head full of wonderful memories of him as a baby, little boy and now a young man. I hope that all the craziness and fun I tried to add to his life will be remembered by him in the same manner.

Its Wednesday the day before St. Patrick's Day so here is your early warning get something green to wear for tomorrow. A gorgeous day here in sunny Tampa. Very excited that the weekend is only two days away!

So excited at this news...there is an EVENING EDITION

I just called my local Walgreen and found out that the 8 pan Wet N Wild Shadows are FINALLY at my store and they are waiting for me when I get there tonight.  WHOO HOO!!! I am doing a little dance. Bravo Walgreen, this line came out in January and you are just getting them up!

I have also been looking at Kmart's clothing line for this Spring and it is soo cute!! Can't wait to head over to my nearest location and pick up a few items, especially the Military/Band Jacket.

Old Navy has a really good basics/stock up sale going on so if you are in need of a few cute spring pieces this would be a great place to start! Hurry this ends 3/16

Roller Coaster Life Lesson 35

When it came to riding roller coasters. I've passed on that opportunity every chance that came my way. That was until Sunday. As my better half (BH) and I wandered around Universal Studios thru Hooville and Jurassic something or other,  we entered Harry Potter's world.  We stepped into a line which I thought was the broom ride you see on TV, boy was I surprised. Swallowing my pride I started to to explain to BH that maybe this wasn't what we should do. I just kept walking and I am so glad I did. I told BH as we waited in line, I had never ridden a roller coaster. His smile was priceless, he then pointed toward the red dragon side and the front row line. Sadistic sounding I know, but good for me. I had the best time, can't wait to go back again

Roller coasters are funny things, they are full of drops, loops, turns, twists and fear just like life. I am grabbing hold of my destiny and taking it on head first,  as I did that coaster.

I Want My Hour Back!!

Daylight Savings is the suck.  OK, just in the Spring.  I know, I know I totally love the longer sunshine time that we get because of it, but seriously an hour of sleep lost is the worst.

Deep breath in,  I am now finished ranting.  Being a crazy Monday after and awesome weekend my look today is quite understated. In other words, I over slept and had to rush to get out the door. I believe I still managed to look cute as hell, so I'm good with that.

If you were not already madly in love with me, would you fall in love with me today because I am wearing this outfit?

This is the question that was posed to my Mr. Wonderful about 7:15 A.M.. Mind you, he is trying to sleep and I am dropping everything I touch as I get ready for work this Friday. I think I look pretty cute today, and I really want him to agree.  I love how he opens his eyes in the morning as I make another loud noise, which I SWEAR on the boxes in the closet (my parent’s ashes) I am not doing on purpose, and smiles at me.  He is an awesome sport.

Today is a gorgeous day outside my office window. Sun is smiling; water in the bay is winking at me. I am in a super good mood despite the massive sinus pressure and echo head I have going on from all of the pollen of the season. Looking forward to a great weekend, maybe a trip to Bike Week (I feel like SUCH a rebel at the thought). Maybe watch a movie or two with my borrowed mom. Going to try and take the hound and the skwirl on some kind of adventure.  Just really glad it is here finally.

Outfit of the day FRIDAY 3/11/2011

Black and Grey stripped sweater from OP
Black Faded Glory slim jeans
Black skimmers from Old Navy

Be sweet to each other today... There is an awful lot of heartache going on in the world today. Watch what you say about others until you have walked in their shoes a day.  Enjoy your day!

A day in the life of this That Girl..

My handsome guy and I took in a movie last night.. We saw the King's Speech. It was an amazing story of overcoming things that you have been told and believe you never can. I walked away with a glimmer of hope for myself.

You see, I suffer from "Princessitis". Growing up my dad tended to shield me from the things that he thought would cause me to injure myself or someone else for that matter.  "Not this one" was a pharse I heard often. I was the dingbat who didn't get a lot of things and well, that really has not changed. Until I met Keith....The first time he told me there wasn't anything in this world he didn't think I could do, I was floored. Why would this man have such faith in me?  I do not have that much faith in myself.  I fear eveyday of letting him down in one stupid way or another. It tends to get in the way.

I believe that I can change the way I think about myself and be more confident in who I am and who I am meant to be. The list of things that I have never done before is getting smaller, thanks to Keith.

Todays fashion report:: Thrusday 3/10/11

Well it was raining cats and dogs this morning when I got dressed. It has also turned chilly and will be cold.. I thought we were done with this cold mess so I opted for a few of my fall back pieces that every girl should own. No pictures yet still working on getting that part done but here is a break down:

Hair pulled up in ponytail because of the rain.

Skinny Faded Glory denim jeans in medium dark blue
Ivory Faded Glory ribbed turtleneck sweater
Faded Glory ballet flats in a leapord type print.
Necklace and earings are from Target.

Eyemake up is ELF Brownstone and Wet N Wild Mascara in black
Mineral Foundation by ELF in Medium
Medium tinted moisturizer
Lipstick by ELF in Bare Brown.

I look like its cold and rainy and I overslept... Just so you know, that was the look I was going for,  so there!!!

First day of Lent and I have no idea what to give up!

Yes, I know. I should have this already finished and decided on . This year I have more things that I want to do instead of give up. Here is just a sample of my list:

Stand up straight, I have horrible posture.
Exercise everyday, I need to do this so I can think clearly and keep the depression away and Biketober Fest will be here before I know it!!
Lose weight, I so need to lose 60 pounds. I know, sad but very true.
Blog everyday, I would like to do a daily outfit and make up blog to show people you do not have to spend a fortune to look awesome everyday.
Be positive, I am such a glass half ful kinda person.
Read more,  I want to rid myself of mushy mind

So maybe I should give up being lazy, slouching and junk food during this season of Lent.

Very excited to have the Discovery coming home soon.  Cant wait to hear her boom in a bit here in sunny Tampa!!

Until tomorrow!! Be good to each other

Day One - January 12, 2011 and away we go....

Today is the first day of my blog. For those of you who dont know me, Hi! my name is Andrea! My nickname is Andi, my dad gave me the nick name many, many years ago. After hating it most of my life I finally embraced it, sadly after my father died.  I'm a divorcee who tried to work it out with my ex, only to find out that I was the only one working on anything in that relationship.  I'm the mother of an awesome and very tall 15 year old son.

In February 2010 I caught up with an old high school friend on Facebook and got caught with him in March and honestly haven't look back since! With the exception of one very low spot, I have had the BEST 10 months ever.

I have done quite a few things I never thought I would ever do. Starting this blog comes to mind the biggest thing was running a 5K. Yep there I was on a very cold morning in December running outside of International Plaza, in the Jingle Bell Run.  I almost gave up, I was tired and depressed at how long those stupid 3 miles were taking me. I am so glad I did not give up, I would have never found my very own reindeer waiting for me with that smile that makes everything right at the finish line.

Things are going to be changing for me. Going to become and big happy family again, getting ready for another 5K, The Gasparilla Distance Classic in February.  Looking forward to getting organized and settled!

It will be wonderful to be one big happy family again and we will be.. There will be My Favorite Mom, Better Half, Andi That Girl, The Skwirl, The Wurthless and The Flea.

Until tomorrow, stay warm and be good to each other!
